Illusionary Assassin

Leaving the village

Erath two days after Maxwell died.

A young man was standing in a luxurious apartment holding a small picture of an older couple while speaking to himself. ”Mom, Dad, I finally did it; the person who killed you is dead. Are you proud of me? ” he said while sipping wine from an elegant glass.

Shaking his head after looking at the picture for a while, he put it on the table before walking away and emptying the glass of wine.

”Six years; it took me six years to get revenge, but finally, I emerged victorious. Im the reason Maxwell died. It was all because of me. Now I get to enjoy the life of riches and status I would have if that scumbag didn kill my parents. ” The young man said with a smile before summoning the Chaotic codex.

Name: Oliver Harper

Age: 18

race: human

Main element: light

Active abilities:

-Light the way: shine a light on the thing you are looking for, giving you a vague feeling of its location that strengthens the closer you are. You need to know what you are searching for Target has to be on the same planet for this ability to work. You need to have more chaotic energy than the target of ability.

Passive abilities:

-steel will: you didn lose your drive for revenge in the last six years while achieving nothing but failure. Failure will no longer affect your determination.

Weapon mastery:

– sword: competent level of control and handling of the weapon.

”and its all because of this skill Light the way, what an incredible ability this is. I still remember the day I got it as if it were yesterday. ” Oliver said with a smile on his face.

. . .

Sitting inside a stuffy room with images and notes scattered all around was a dirty, unwashed teenager sitting on a chair while looking into his laptop.

”I feel it. Im so close to finding Blank shot hiding spot. There is no way for him to run away now. After looking through his last murders, I can finally point out his location. Im sure this guess will be correct. ”

”beep beep, ” an alarm started going off in the background, ”Oh, I just turned 17 to think that the son of the two most influential people in the entire county will be alone without a party or any gifts on his birthday again. ” He said with a sarcastic tone.

Suddenly light started coming from Oliviers hands, lighting the room up and scaring him to death.

”Ahh, what the hell is going on? Did I Die? Am I going to heaven? ” he started screaming before Chaotic codex appeared before him. ”I became awakened? ” he said with a blank look on his face, still confused about the situation, but before he could figure anything out, another incredible thing happened.

A pure white flame appeared and started burning words on the chaotic codex as a massage entered Olivers mind Light has acknowledged your drive for revenge and granted you an ability.

”I awakened my element and ability at the same time. Is this a dream? It must be. ” he clenched his fists so hard that blood started coming out because his uncut nails started piercing the skin on his hand, as he wished it wasn a dream.

After the entire day passed and the euphoria he had after reading through his chaotic codex went away, Oliver started planning how to get his revenge on Blank shot with his new ability called ”Light the way. ”

”That was one amazing birthday; if you think about it, in just a few short hours, my entire life did a 180 turn, and now I can finally rest in peace knowing he died. ”

With a satisfied expression, Olivier was Lying inside a bed, trying to fall asleep, when he heard an eternal voice inside both his ears.

”Maxwell Haze is still alive. ”

Jumping out of bed wearing his pajamas, Oliver started looking around the room, thinking someone was playing a joke on him but seeing no one. He started thinking it was his imagination.

Maxwell can be alive. I watched his corpse burn to ash with my own eyes, and since I could track him back, it meant he hadn awakened. So it must be my imagination, yeah, thats it. figuring everything out, Olivier wanted to lay back in his bed. But while he was trying to cover himself up with sheets, the same voice spoke again.

”Maxwell Haze is still alive. ”

Opening his eyes wide, Oliver screamed, ”Who are you!? How do you know hes alive!? ” looking around to see where the voice was coming from, but he couldn find anything.

But just like the last time, there was no warning as It reverted inside Oliviers ears, ”Im the justice, the righteous, and the light itself. ”

”Light? You are my element. No, it doesn matter now. How do you know Maxwell is alive when even my ability cannot track him? I made sure he died! ”

”Hes not on this planet. I don know how but Im sure about it. If you want to get your revenge, I can transport you there, but you must become my chosen and swear your loyalty to me. And I will grant you gifts like the one ability you got if you accomplish great things in my name. Im giving you 1 minute to decide. ”

Trying to process all of the information he got, Olivers brain went into overdrive. But after repeating everything he heard and the part about being chosen and taking revenge under the influence of alcohol without thinking clearly, he decided to agree.

”If you will help me kill him and get my revenge, I swear my loyalty to you as the only heir of the Harper family. ”

As Oliver accepted the offer, his chaotic codex appeared, and a new line of text got added while white light started shining under him, and his body turned into white particles and disappeared with a flash of light.

Maxwell Woke up early in the morning and left the tavern after a quick morning routine heading straight towards the forest so he could complete making the safe path.

It would be bad if the caravan came when Im in the forest, but they should stay the night to rest before continuing on their journey, so there shouldn be any problem with me leaving for the entire day.

Getting to the place he stopped at last night, Maxwell started checking out the supposedly cleared area around the hunters mark; again, he noticed the same deep tracks pointing into a deeper place inside the forest.

While looking at the prints, Maxwells brows furrowed. Thats annoying. I never went camping because most of the people I hunted stayed inside villas or protected areas, not in the wilderness.

Thinking back to his life on Earth, his teacher once tried to teach him about wilderness if he ever got injured and had to run through the forest, and one of the lessons was about prints and how to gauge the animals weight from the mark it left.

Guess I should have been more focused on her theoretical lessons while I was still on Earth, but she should be doing fine after quitting to take care of me and teach me killing arts.

A smile crept onto Maxwells face after thinking about the person who spent their life teaching him as their own kid while being the scariest assassin on Earth at that time.

She should be quite the old lady by now. she started teaching me when I was 11. I think her age should be 74 years right now. How fast time flies when you don even notice it.

Noticing he was spacing out thinking about the past, Maxwell slapped himself on the cheek with all his strength, ”what am I thinking? Im not even on Earth anymore, so I shouldn think about the past. ”

Returning to his usual cold demeanor, he focused once more and tried to remember anything he could about the wilderness lessons.

Well, this is not a mark I have ever seen. Its just that the animal should be quite big looking at how deep into the ground it goes.

Thinking about his options, Maxwell decided to avoid the animals territory and went around it, creating another safe path that was a little bit longer but went around the entire region the unknown creature marked with its claws.

Two safe paths should do it if I **ed up later, and I should get going since its getting dark and Im a little deep in the forest this should be the perfect time to head back into the village.

While the moon was high in the sky, lightning up the forest, Maxwell was walking toward the village. Walking out of the woods on a muddy road standing between crops, he looked at the night sky. ”Stars, how long have I not seen those five years, maybe 10? I don know anymore since there was no way for me to see them in a large city. Its such a waste. ”

After a few more minutes of walking, he finally appeared before the tavern and went inside, heading straight to the counter before asking for a room with a meal.

Nodding at Maxwell, the bartender threw him a key with the number 3 on it and went back so he could ask his wife to prepare one more meal.

Sitting on a stool near the counter and waiting for his meal, Maxwell saw a few hunters gambling not far away from him.

Seeing him looking, one of the hunters smiled, ”wanna join? ”

”No, I don have enough money, but maybe next time I was just bored. Sorry for staring at you. ”

”I see no problem. ” Before the hunter could say anything else, a ding resounded from the kitchen door, and the bartender handed Maxwell his food. Taking the tray into his hands, Maxwell went to his room.

Still no caravan, and Im with one silver coin, and this asshole even tried to cheat me out of my money. Does he think I overlooked two of them were setting up wins for each other in the last few days?

Closing the door behind him and placing the tray on the desk, he went to sit on his bed for some time. Well, its not even like I lied. Im left with no money since I have one silver coin in my pocket; I should eat the meal and hope for the best tomorrow.

Standing up, Maxwell went to the desk where he left the tray with his meal and started eating slowly. Then after finishing his meal, he lay in bed and quickly fell asleep, only to wake up in the middle of the night because of a commotion outside the window.

Lightning up a lantern, Maxwell walked over to the window and opened it to see what was happening.

Outside the window, horses were pulling two wagons and one carriage; while surrounded by a group of people with close combat weapons. After entering the village, they stopped outside the tavern, and two people exited the carriage and went inside.

guess my luck isn that bad after all. I still had one more day before my deadline. How nice of them to show up. Merchants and mercenaries will probably go to sleep now, so I go back to sleep so I won be tired on tomorrows journey.

Satisfied with the news, Maxwell closed the window and went back to bed since he didn want to thoroughly get out of his sleepy mood after waking up a few seconds ago.

Early in the morning, Maxwell woke up, did some light exercises before taking a bath, and checked the supplies he had bought two days earlier. Finally, Im going to leave this village.

Seeing some dry meat and a leather water holder in a bag with one extra knife on his belt, Maxwell opened the door and headed to the lower floor of the tavern, where a group of people was drinking alcohol.
