「I’m so sorry!」

Athal was bewildered at the sight of a young woman of her status prostrating herself before him.

「Ah, no, well, what should I do.」

Athal scratched his cheek, troubled by the girl lowering her head next to him, and looked to the coachman for guidance.

「Ojou-sama is really sorry.
Please, forgive her with just my head.」

However, the coachman prostrated himself no less than her, even going as far as to rub his forehead against the ground.

「Ah, there’s no use! Raise your heads, both of you!」

Thinking the conversation wouldn’t progress any further the way it was going, Athal yelled at the two of them.

「Y, yes!」

「M, my mistake!」

They gave different responses, but both of them hastily raised their heads at the same time with apologetic expressions on their faces.

「Anyone would be confused by waking up next to an unknown man after being chased by monsters.
Plus, you might have hit your head there when the carriage fell over.
So don’t worry about it.」

Athal declared so with a slightly angry look on his face.
He was hesitant to speak harshly to someone who had just been in a dangerous situation, but honestly, having someone stubbornly apologize to him repeatedly was annoying.

「But…」

「However…」

「But nothing! Don’t say anything else about it!」

As much as the two of them wanted to continue apologizing, having the man who saved their lives strongly tell them to stop it forced them to stop, albeit reluctantly.

「So, what happened? I can tell by your appearance that you’re the daughter of a wealthy family, right? Why are you out travelling without any guards?」

As Athal questioned the two in a calm tone of voice, contrary to the harsh tone he had used previously, their faces turned gloomy and their shoulders drooped.
It seemed that they had their circumstances.

「Actually…」

The pair told of their tragic story.

The girl was a noble daughter named Ashna.
When she had left the town she was staying at to return to her parent’s home, it seemed she had an envoy of several adventurers guarding her.
Their strength was real, and the monsters that were attacking the carriage earlier would have been no problem for them to bring down.

However, midway through the journey, the adventurers betrayed the pair.
More specifically, they planned to do so from the beginning.
The adventures belonged to Ashna’s uncle and plotted to take her hostage to steal wealth and glory from her father.

「I understand quite well.」

Athal was impressed by that information.
He wasn’t able to see the real ability of the coachman and Ashna

Since he wasn’t able to see the real ability of the coachman and Ashna from how they dealt with the monsters earlier, he was impressed by their story.

「Yes, the man leading the adventurers told me about it even though I didn’t ask him about it.」

Ashna involuntarily ground her teeth in frustration as she remembered the faces of that adventure and her uncle.

「And then somehow we managed to escape through a gap in the adventures… but the result was as you saw earlier.」

「You realized you were being chased by monsters, then the carriage fell over as you were running away.
Then I came running by, huh….」

The pair drooped their shoulders and nodded after Athal finished the coachman’s words.

「… I’m Athal, a traveller.
I don’t know the surroundings of this place very well and was unsure as to which way would bring me to a town.
So could I tag along with you until we reach a town? I’ll guard you on the way of course.」

Rather than going to the town by himself, Athal figured that he would be able to avoid a lot of trouble by going to the town with the daughter of an influential noble.

「Th, that would help us greatly as well! We should definitely go together!」

Unable to worry about being courteous or polite in the situation due to the risk of missing the opportunity, Ashna immediately accepted Athal’s proposal.
Seeing her, the coachman hurriedly began nodding his head as well.

「Well then, that’s it for the negotiations.」

Athal was glad to be able to find companions to travel with on his way to the town.

「Gill, shall we bring him home to meet with father?」

「Agreed.」

As the two spoke about future developments, Athal was excited to be going to a town in this world.

「Well then, I’ll head up on top of the carriage, so give me a shout if you need anything.」

Athal smoothly got up on top of the carriage’s canopy, surprising Ashna and Gill as before they embarked on their journey to the town her parents lived.

It was a peaceful trip without any monsters approaching the carriage… or so Ashna thought.

Actually though, Athal brought down any monsters that tried to attack the carriage before they could even approach.
Although it decreased the power, he attacked with his silencing ability on, leaving the two below unaware of anything happening.
Athal was glad to earn some BP while riding on top of a vehicle.

「Athal-sama! We’ve arrived at my hometown! 」

Seeing the town, she was relieved from the bottom of her heart, and it seemed her tension was raised to the max.

「So this is the town…」

Athal dismounted the canopy and looked up at the town.
It was surrounded by walls, giving it the feel of a fortress city.

「Are you surprised? This is the biggest city in the area, and it’s governed by my father.」

They had mentioned during the trip that her father was the feudal lord of the town.
However, Athal did not expect it to be such a large city, and could only admire its walls and massive gate.
It might have been good luck that he saved the daughter of the lord of such a large city.

「Ashna-sama, welcome back!」

A guard near the gate called out to Ashna inside the carriage with a smiling face.

「Yes, I’ve returned.」

Ashna answered with a smile on her face, but the guard’s expression became dubious as soon as he noticed that there was something strange with the top of the carriage.

「… Is something wrong?」

Looking closely there was an unidentified man, and the carriage was dirty with scratches here and there.
Seeing that, the guard concluded that something must have occurred.
Sensing the oddity with that guard, another guard came over.

「Various things happened, and it wasn’t a particularly smooth trip for us.
Monsters attacked the carriage midway, but thanks to the assistance of Athal-sama over there we managed to get through it and arrive safely.」

When Ashna introduced Athal, the man sitting in a weird spot who they thought was suspicious, as the man who had saved them, the guard’s face became meek.

「We thank you for rescuing Ashna-sama from that dangerous situation.」

「Thank you very much.」

Then the other guard lowered his head as well.
From that, it was apparent that she was adored as the daughter of the lord.

「I guess… You really are the daughter of this town’s lord.
Seeing this really drives that in.」

Athal voiced his thoughts in a serious tone as he recalled the situation of when they had first met.
When he recalled the first conversation he had had with Ashna and Gill, a bitter smile floated to his face.

Escorted by the guards, the three of them headed towards the lord’s house.
This time, Athal wasn’t on the canopy of the carriage, but riding inside it normally.
