rested his arm on Ji Ziming’s shoulder and raised an eyebrow at his friend’s grave look.

“If you care so much about her, you shouldn’t have done that earlier.”

Ji Ziming coldly shrugged off Mu Heng’s hand and turned around once Pei Ge’s figure disappeared from his sight.

He did not care about that woman at all.

“Not that I want to say anything about this, but that Little Chili has been under a lot of mental stress recently, yet you still did that to her.
No wonder she slapped you.
Heh! If I were in her shoes, I would also slap you.” Mu Heng carefully eyed his friend’s cold face, snorted, and spoke for Pei Ge.

“Don’t you have something better to do?” Ji Ziming frowned and stared at Mu Heng with cold eyes.

Seeing that Ji Ziming was directing his frustration to him, Mu Heng pouted.
“This master here has nothing better to do every day.”

“I need to work.” Ji Ziming sat back in his swivel chair and took out a file, clearly dismissing him.

“Che! Ziming, you’d better send Little Chili an apology.
Otherwise, she may never come back.” Mu Heng good-naturedly gave this advice to his friend.

“Whether or not to return is her decision.” Ji Ziming lowered his head, seemingly unperturbed by this matter, yet the hand tightly gripping his pen exposed his real emotions.

Mu Heng cast a glance at Ji Ziming and rolled his eyes.
“I really don’t know what you are thinking about.”

“Forget it.
I won’t say anything else; do whatever you see fit.” Mu Heng shook his head at the seemingly hard-at-work Ji Ziming and left the CEO’s office.

Pak! Once the wooden door slammed shut, Ji Ziming lifted his head, closed the contract on his desk, and pulled open his right drawer.

The drawer had one more personnel file in it compared to before.

He opened that personnel file and looked at the one-inch photo featuring the not exactly pretty but smiling face of Pei Ge.
His eyes darkened.

After bidding Pan Xinlei farewell, Pei Ge did not go home right away and, instead, walked along a bustling street.

The sight of the many passersby on the street gradually calmed her mind down.

Seeing that it was almost lunchtime, Pei Ge suddenly thought of that shop she used to frequent with Zhou Zhuoyang.

She really liked that restaurant’s beef noodles.
Although the taste of their dishes was average, she really loved that restaurant.

However, after Zhou Zhuoyang disappeared, she avoided going to that place to prevent herself from thinking of him.

“Silly.” Pei Ge’s mouth curved downward as she pouted.

Why would she give up something she liked for a man, especially a jerk? Hmph!

“I’ve decided! Today, I shall go to that restaurant for lunch!” She clenched her hands as a bright smile blossomed on her face.

She walked to the intersection and raised her hand to flag down a taxi.
She boarded the taxi and informed the driver of the restaurant’s location.

At that same moment, a man sitting in an office took out his phone and frowned at its screen.

As he was about to keep the phone, Mu Heng’s words floated in his mind.

‘…May never come back.’

Ji Ziming’s good-looking eyebrows knitted together and his palm tightly gripped the phone.
In the end, he navigated through his phone and eventually pressed the ‘send’ button.
