The Witch and The Prince

Prince Matthew Osas went out of the study room and meet Simon still standing and guarding the door. He looked at Simon and shook his head while he headed straight to the next building as the two buildings were built together and had a passage connecting them. He took the passage and went to the royal building to join his mother for dinner.

The dinning was on the second floor, so he went down the stairs on the royal building to the second floor and went to the dinning room. Queen Rosa Osas was already seated waiting for her sons, while Prince Henry Osas a 25yrs old man arrived at the dinning same time with his elder brother. Their younger sister was already married earlier before their father late King Hanks Osas died.

”What took you so long?, ” Queen Rosa Osas asked her son as she tied her table napkin round her neck to prevent oil stains on her expensive dress.

”Mother, ” Prince Matthew Osas hummed her name and took his seat across her while prince Henry Osas sat at his brothers respective left opposite their mother on the dinning table. A maid standing by the dinning, a middle-aged woman came forward and dishes out the royal food. Serving the fried chicken first and then jollof rice garnished with fresh fruits like carrot and green beans. The maid went on pouring out the liquid milk into the glass cups refilling the cups while she stepped back to give the royal family some privacy.

Prince Matthew Osas started eating while Queen Rosa gaze was on her first son wondering why he had that recent smile on his face. Seeing his mother staring at him, Prince Matthew Osas raised his head up to meet his mothers intent gaze on him as she hadn even started eating her meal.

”What is it mother?, ” Prince Matthew Osas asked, raising a brow as he stared at his mother. He was sitting across her and opposite of her on the dinning. Queen Rosa Osas shook her head and replied him, ”Nothing son, ” and she smiled at him and started eating.

Prince Henry Osas just stared from his mother to his elder brother not understanding why they were both smiling when they had important matters to discuss, they were rather smiling, he shook his head and kept on eating his meal as per table mannerisms.

After they were thru eating, Queen Rosa still sat cleaning the side of her mouth with her table napkin. Just as Prince Matthew Osas was about standing up from his seat and excusing himself from the dinning room his mother stopped him.

”Son, don you think you should consider marrying Benita Davis, shes the first daughter of her father Chief Donald Davis and also a member of the elders in our council. She won the dance competition between the maidens of our lands and so far shes the most pretty and well talented amongst the girls. Son give her a chance, we need to start arranging your coronation and you have taken too much time as these already six month since your father passed away, ” Queen Rosa Osas said.

Prince Matthew Osas stopped on the dinning while he turned to face his mother. His younger brother Prince Henry Osas just stared at him waiting for his response.

”Mother I don like her, I really don like any of the girls you have selected. I don find them attractive or compatible with me, ” Prince Matthew Osas replied with a stern face.

”But brother don you think mother is right. Sometimes marriage isn about someone you are compatible or in love with, is more about balancing the equation of what the people want and expect from you as their ruler. And besides it our tradition for you as the crown prince to marry Benita since she has already won the womens contest, ” Prince Henry Osas said while his brother ignored him and turned to leave

”Son are you walking out on us?!, ” Queen Rosa Osas called after Prince Matthew. He paused and shook his head while he left the dinning room.

”Leave him mother, he knows his responsibility as the crown prince and he has to fulfill his obligation whether he likes it or not, ” Prince Henry Osas said, shaking his head and he carried his glass cup containing milk and took a sip from it.

”Talk to your brother, make him to understand that these isn about love but his duty in these palace and he has to marry a maiden before this month runs out. He has just two weeks left else the kingship will be shifted to you, ” Queen Rosa Osas told her second son and he shook his head in rejection.

”No mother, I don want to be king, ” Prince Henry Osas said and he stood up

”What do you mean by that?, ” Queen Rosa Osas questioned him as he stood.

”I don want to be king mother, I think I will rather talk to brother and make him understand, ” Prince Henry Osas said as he drank his remaining milk emptying the glass cup, he dropped it down and said, ”I beg to take my leave now mother, good night and have a good night rest. ”

”You too son, ” Queen Rosa dismissed her son and he left leaving only her seated on the dinning table. She shook her head wondering why her first son was so stubborn. The two maids standing at the corner waiting for the royal family to be thru immediately came to clear and clean the table as soon as Queen Rosa Osas left with her two personal maids that stood behind waiting for her to be thru. She went back to her chamber to rest for the night.

Prince Matthew Osas went back to the second building taking the passaging on the second floor that connected the two buildings, his two guards followed him from behind and he took the stairs going up to the third floor of the second building. Reaching in front of the study room door, he saw Simon still standing and guarding the door as per his previous instructions to him. He walked passed Simon and went into the study room.

Princess Tata Edwards was already thru eaten. She was very hungry as she hadn eaten anything while she was still at Jalin Kingdom as she was planning and scheming on how she would escape from the palace and from her brother and cousin brother marriage proposal to her.

She quickly sat up as she saw Prince Matthew Osas returned back to the room. She had locked her magical powers and it took her time to also get the actual magical words to lock it as her brother was the only one whom had access to their ancestral library while they were taught the few on how to use magical powers.

Prince Matthew Osas came to meet her and he saw she has already finished the food, emptied the big plate and likewise the large bottle of wine. He looked from the plate on the stool to stare at her and she looked up to meet his gaze while a beautiful wide smile subconsciously spread on her face. Princess Tata Edwards stood up feeling embarrassed as she didn understand why the prince was staring at her surprised, oh she forgot she was a glutton and she has actually ate all the food to her satisfaction even though the food was totally different from the kind of meals they do eat in Jalin.
